Fu De Zheng Shen (Mythological Figure)

Fu De Zheng Shen, commonly known as Tudigong(Lord of the Soil and the Ground), is also known as Fudeye (Lord Fude), Bogong(Elder Lord), Daboye(Great Elder Lord), houtu or simply known as Tudi (Ruler God of the Soil). There are many legends about Fu De Zheng Shen.

The poor used four large stones to enclose a stone house to worship it. After a while, he turned from poor to rich. The people believed that it was God's blessing, so they jointly built a temple and golden body to worship, so businessmen often worship it. It is also said that Tudigong was the servant of the King Mu of Zhou. In order to prevent the young lady from freezing, he took off his clothes for the young lady to wear. He only wore thin clothes, but he froze to death because he could not stand the cold weather.

At this moment, a scene of "Nantianmen Daxian Fuzhengzheng" appeared in the sky. The scholar-bureaucrat thanked him for his kindness and built a temple to enshrine it.

During the reign of King Wu of Zhou, he was given the title of Houtu, and later generations were honored as Lord of the Land. The god of good fortune is generally called the Tudigong. Tudigong is almost always dressed with white beard, white hair, and a good smile. He is dressed as a local member, holding ingots in one hand and Ruyi or crutches in the other, fully showing the demeanor of a kind and gentle elder.

The second day of February of the lunar calendar is regarded as the birthday of Tudigong by folk beliefs. Many people and businesses will worship Tudigong on this day, praying for a safe and prosperous family.

The second day of February of the lunar calendar is the "head tooth", and it is also the first day for the people to worship the Tudigong. This custom is said to come from the ancient and cultural circles of the army to worship the military flag, but the actual situation remains to be studied. Starting from the second day of the second lunar month, every second and sixteenth day of the first lunar month is the day to worship the Tudigong.

Since this day is the first time to worship the Tudigong in the whole year, it is especially valued. The folk-circulated "Fu De Zheng Shen Zhen Jing"( Fu De Zheng Shen scripture) records that " The second day of February of the lunar calendar is the day when the Lord of the Earth is enshrined as a god of good fortune." From this record, The second day of February of the lunar calendar is the day when the Tudigong was conferred a god.

Another day is the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. The Mid-Autumn Festival is also a big day to worship the Lord of the Soil and the Ground. From the emperor to the civilian, they all worship the God of the Soil and the Ground and the God of the Five Grains. The "Fu Zheng Shen Zhen Jing" mentioned just now also records that "the birthday of the god on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month is welcomed by farmers and fishermen."

Worship

Among the folks, Tudigong is also regarded as the God of Wealth and Fortune. Because the people believe that "where there is soil, there is wealth", Tudigong is regarded as the patronus by the merchants. It is said that he can also make a good harvest of grains, so many people welcome the Lord of the Soil and the Ground into their homes to worship. Generally, among the five gods in the halls of the family, there must be dedicated to the Lord of the Soil and the Ground. If there is no worship of the Lord of the Soil and the Ground in the family, on the second and sixteenth of each month, incense tables, candlesticks, and offerings are set up in front of the house for worship. However, in general, farmers pay homage to the Lord of the Soil and the Ground on the first and fifteenth days of each month.
